How to Read Your Old House
Sunday, March 15, 2:00–4:00 pm
The Sweden Historical Society hosted a winter workshop led by two whip‑smart experts on old houses. Preservation specialists Jessie Burchett and Nevan Carling, who are restoring an 1810 historic home in South Waterford, came to the Sweden Meeting Hall to share their expertise with other homeowners in Western Maine.
Jessie is a museum professional and Nevan is a conservation timber framer. Together, they led an interactive workshop for homeowners curious about when and how their old houses were built, where to look for clues, and how to spot evidence of the changes that take place over time.

Lighting of the Evergreen Tree
Saturday November 29, 2025
This years Lighting of the Evergreen Tree was another spectacular event well attended by year round Sweden residents and neighbours. We even had some summer folks attend. This event was successful thanks to many volunteers working together: locals shovelling early snow, Fire Department team putting up lights, church members decorating the church, musicians putting together a sing along, Pantry staff preparing snacks and drinks in the pantry. Of course the beautiful Schoolhouse was also open and sweatshirts were on sale for the coming winter season.
